Take that Ron Paul - January 27, 2008

From the department of strange behavior:

A friend of mine told me recently that while he's waiting for his wife to get off work, he'll drive around LA and pull down the 'Ron Paul for President' signs that seem to hang everywhere on the freeways.

that is sad that someone would destroy campaign materials. I don't like alot of candidates but I will not destroy their signs.

Why sad, Anonymous?

I thought it was funny and bizarre. Funny because I can just see him driving around, knuckles white on his steering wheel, so angry that he'd stop on a freeway and tear down the sign.

Bizarre because, well, it's not like Ron Paul has a shot at the republican nomination. And it's not like pulling down those signs is really going to hurt his chance. It's such an empty guesture. How much do you have to hate a candidate that you'd stop to rip down his signs when that isn't going to change anything?

impotence. if you're incapable of changing something, even a tiny and empty gesture combats a general sense of powerlessness. last election i walked around new york with an enormous BUSH/CHENEY button on my coat (think what you will, i'm a libertarian), and got off on how emotionally disturbed it made people. i guess that makes me a sadistic jerk, but it comes to a point at which people need to separate themselves emotionally from the elaborate farce that is the american political system..

Kate,

you're probably right. It's probably some feeling of helplessness at his inability to change the political system. It's still funny. I want to sneak into his work and post a bunch of Ron Paul posters, just to watch him freak out.
